Photoelectric Sensors

Thru-beam Sensors use a separate light emitter and receiver, the sensor changes output state when the beam is broken.
Advantages include high reliability and a strong beam that can operate up to 50 metres.
Requires wiring to both sides of the detection path.

Retro-reflective Sensors use a single sensor that combines both emitter & receiver in the one block, the sensor bounces light off a reflector back to its emitter.
The sensor changes output state when the reflected beam is broken.
Typical working range up to 7 metres.

Diffuse Sensors combine both the emitter & receiver in a single block.
They detect objects from the sensors emitted light being reflected back to the sensor from the object.
This method shortens the sensing range considerably, but allows for refinements such as "Fixed-Focus" sensing.
Typical sensing distances are up to 2 metres.
